Allegra (Fexofenadine) Uses
This medication is an antihistamine. This medication is used to treat hay fever and other allergy symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, and watery and/or itchy eyes.

How Allegra (Fexofenadine) Works
This medication and the other antihistamine drugs block a chemical in your body (histamine), which causes allergy symptoms.

The decongestant in Allegra-D (psuedoephedrine) constricts nasal blood vessels, allowing less fluid and congsetion to enter the nasal passages.

How To Take Allegra (Fexofenadine)
Follow the directions given to you by your doctor. This medicine is taken orally. This medication can be taken with or without food, at the same time every day. Do not crush or chew.

Allegra (Fexofenadine) Possible Side Effects
This medication is generally well-tolerated and side effects are usually mild. Common side effects include drowsiness and dry mouth. If you experience other bothersome side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Allegra (Fexofenadine) Warnings and Precautions
This medication will add to the effects of alcohol and other Central Nervous System (CNS) depressants. Do NOT drive, operated machinery or perform any hazardous activities until you discover how you react to this medication. Orange, apple or grapefruit juice may be decrease the amount of this medication by 70%. Avoid drinking these juices when taking this medication.

Because of the decongestant (pseudoephedrine) component in Allegra-D, this product should not be taken if you are taking an MAO inhibitor (a medication for depression), have stopped taking an MAO inhibitor within 14 days, retain urine, have narrow-angle glaucoma, severe high blood pressure or severe heart disease. Inform your doctor if you have high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, glaucoma, thyroid disease, impaired kidney function, or symptoms of an enlarged prostate such as difficulty urinating.

Allegra (Fexofenadine) Drug Interactions
Life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias (irregular heart beat) have been reported when this medication is combines with Cisapride (Propulsid). Avoid this combination. Discuss other interactions with your healthcare professional.

Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take double doses...
(continued) Storage
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children. Store at room temperature, away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw out medication that is outdated or no longer needed.

Pregnancy/Nursing
If you are, or plan on becoming pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits versus the risks of taking this medication during pregnancy. It is not known whether this medication is excreted into breast milk. It is advised that you do not breast feed while taking this medication.

Supplement Information
Valerian and kava kava, herbal supplements used for calming effects, may cause additive drowsiness. Taking this medication with St. John’s Wort may cause increased sensitivity of your skin to sunlight (photosensitivity). When you are out in the sun, use a sunscreen and wear protective clothing.
