Altace (Ramipril) Uses
This medication is used to lower high blood pressure. This medication is also used to treat heart failure after a heart attack. This medication is also used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
How Altace (Ramipril) Works
This medication works by blocking a chemical reaction that constricts blood vessels. This produces a relaxing or widening of blood vessels and lower blood pressure.
How To Take Altace (Ramipril)
This medication is taken by mouth. This medication can be taken with or without food. You should take this medication regularly at the same time every day. Do not stop taking this medication without first consulting your doctor.
Altace (Ramipril) Possible Side Effects
This medication is generally well-tolerated and side effects are usually mild. Common side effects include cough, headache, dizziness and fatigue. If you experience any other side effects, contact your healthcare professional.
Altace (Ramipril) Warnings and Precautions
Do NOT abruptly stop this medication without consulting your doctor. This medication can increase sensitivity to sunlight (photosensitivity). Wear protective clothing and/or sunscreen until you determine your sensitivity.
This medication can cause dizziness or drowsiness. This medication can cause increased potassium levels. This affects about 1% of patients.
Tell your doctor if you have a history of kidney or liver problems.
Altace (Ramipril) Drug Interactions
This medication's actions can be affected by antacids, indomethacin, phenothiazine tranquilizers, digoxin, lithium and potassium.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take double doses...

Storage
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children. Store at room temperature, away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw out medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Altace (Ramipril) Pregnancy/Nursing Precautions
Do not take this medication during pregnancy because of the possibility of fetal damage. This medication has been detected in breast milk, so do not take this medication while breast-feeding.
