Cipro (Ciprofloxacin) Uses

This medication is used in the treatment of is used to treat infections, especially those found of the sinuses, lower respiratory tract and urinary tract. This medication is also used to treat chronic prostate infections, bladder infections, some bone and joint infections, and sometimes for infectious diarrhea.

How Cipro (Ciprofloxacin) Works

This medication inhibits an bacterial enzyme necessary for the bacteria cells to multiply and grow.

How To Take Cipro (Ciprofloxacin)

This medication is taken by mouth. This medication can be taken with or without food. Take this medication with food if upset stomach occurs, but avoid dairy products (milk, cheese, yogurt, etc.) Do not take this drug with aluminum or magnesium-containing antacids, iron, zinc or calcium two hours before and after doses. Don't skip doses.

Cipro (Ciprofloxacin) Possible Side Effects

This medication may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, restlessness and skin rash.

Cipro (Ciprofloxacin) Warnings and Precautions

Products containing calcium, iron, or zinc may interfere with absorption of this medication. Contact your doctor immediately if you develop rash, hives, yellow skin or hives.

Cipro (Ciprofloxacin) Drug Interactions

This medication can increase theophylline side effects, such as headache, nervousness and insomnia. This medication may increase the blood-thinning effects of warfarin. Consult your pharmacist or doctor for more information.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take double doses.

Storage

Keep your prescription in the container it came in, tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children. Store at room temperature, away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw out medication that has become outdated or no longer needed or discontinued.

Cipro (Ciprofloxacin) Pregnancy/Nursing Precautions

This medication should be not taken during pregnancy. It is unknown if this medication is excreted into breast milk, so avoid breastfeeding while taking this medication.
