Clarinex (Desloratadine) Uses

This medication is used to relieve of allergy symptoms (seasonal allergic rhinitis.) This medication may also be used for a rash or hives. This medication is approved for patients 6 years and older.

How Clarinex (Desloratadine) Works

This medication works by blocking the action of histamine. Histamine causes allergic symptoms such as sneezing, itchy watery eyes and runny nose.

How To Take Clarinex (Desloratadine)

This medication is taken by mouth, once a day. Clarinex should be taken on an empty stomach. You should take Clarinex regularly at the same time every day.

Clarinex (Desloratadine) Possible Side Effects

This medication's common side effects include sore throat, fatigue and dry mouth. If you experience any other side effects, contact your healthcare professional.

If you experience chest tightness, difficulty in breathing or swallowing, swelling in the face or lips, see your doctor immediately and stop taking this medication until you have talked to your doctor.

Clarinex (Desloratadine) Warnings and Precautions

Report any dizziness, heart palpitations or chest pain to your doctor while taking this medication.

Clarinex (Desloratadine) Drug Interactions

This medication does interact with some antifungal and some macrolide antibiotics, but no serious effects have been reported. Fluvoxamine (Luvox) and Cimetidine (Tagamet) can increase the amounts of Clarinex in the blood. Discuss with your doctor or pharmacist.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take double doses.

Storage

Keep your prescription in the container it came in, tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children. Store at room temperature, away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw out medication that is outdated or no longer needed.

Clarinex (Desloratadine) Pregnancy/Nursing Precautions

Talk to your doctor about the benefits versus the risks of using this medication during pregnancy. This medication is excreted in the breast milk. Consult your doctor if you plan to breast-feed.
