Combivent Inhaler (Ipratropium and Albuterol) Uses
This medication is used to treat asthma, either alone or with other medications. This inhaler may also be used for long-term treatment of emphysema or bronchitis.
How Combivent Inhaler (Ipratropium and Albuterol) Works
This medication relieves bronchospasms by relaxing the smooth muscles of the bronchioles (the tubes carrying air into the lungs). The Albuterol component gives a more fast-acting effect and the Ipratroprium component works with slower onset. The combination provides better coverage for chronic disease.
How To Use Combivent Inhaler (Ipratropium and Albuterol)
This medication is an orally inhaled aerosol. This medication is generally used four times daily for long-term maintenance treatment. Combivent may be used with or without inhaled steroid therapy, according to needs of the patient.

This medication's actions can be affected by betablockers. Severe bronchospasm can result. Albuterol can affect diuretics (fluid pills), resulting in ECG changes and low potassium levels. Albuterol can decrease blood levels of Digoxin, a heart rhythm medication.

Storage
