Diflucan (Fluconazole) Uses

This medication is used to treat fungal infections in certain areas of the body.

How Diflucan (Fluconazole) Works

This medication works by damaging fungus cell walls and inhibiting essential enzymes that fungal cells need to survive.

How To Take Diflucan (Fluconazole)

This medication is taken by mouth. This medication can be taken with or without food. Avoid grapefruit juice. The tablet may be crushed if necessary.

Do not stop taking this medication without taking all your medication or first consulting your doctor. Fungal infections, like other infections, may return if you don't take the medicine as long as you are supposed to.

Possible Diflucan Side Effects (Fluconazole)

This medication is generally well-tolerated and side effects are usually mild. Common side effects include headache, diarrhea and abdominal pain. If you experience any other side effects, contact your healthcare professional.

DO NOT take this medication with Seldane (terfenadine), Hismanal (astemizole) or cisapride.

If you are taking birth-control pills, this medication may decrease the effectiveness of you birth control pills. Use a back-up method of contraception while taking this medication to avoid getting pregnant.

This medication can increase the effects of many other medications. For more information on drug interactions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take double doses.

Storage

Keep your prescription in the container it came in, tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children. Store at room temperature, away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw out medication that is outdated or no longer needed.

Consult your doctor about the benefits versus the risks of using this medication while pregnant. This medication has been detected in breast milk, so do not take this medication while breast-feeding without first consulting with your doctor.
