Diovan (Valsartan) Uses

This medication is used to lower high blood pressure. Diovan controls high blood pressure, but does not cure it. This medication is also used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

How Diovan (Valsartan) Works

This medication works by blocking a chemical reaction that constricts blood vessels. This produces a relaxing or widening of blood vessels and lower blood pressure.

How To Take Diovan (Valsartan)

This medication is taken by mouth, usually once a day. Diovan can be taken with or without food. You should take this medication regularly at the same time every day. Do not stop taking this medication without first consulting your doctor.

Possible Diovan Side Effects (Valsartan)

This medication is generally well-tolerated and side effects are usually mild. Common side effects include cough, headache, dizziness, upset stomach, diarrhea and fatigue. If you experience any other side effects, contact your healthcare professional.

Diovan (Valsartan) Warnings and Precautions

Do NOT abruptly stop Diovan (Valsartan) without consulting your doctor.

Keep your prescription in the container it came in, tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children. Store at room temperature, away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw out medication that is outdated or no longer needed.

Diovan (Valsartan) Pregnancy/Nursing Precautions

This medication is not recommended during pregnancy. Discontinue use as soon as possible when pregnancy is detected. It is unknown whether Diovan is excreted into breast milk, so exercise caution concerning taking Diovan while breast-feeding.
