This medication is used to treat overactive bladder with symptoms of urinary incontinence, urgency, and frequency.

How Ditropan (Oxybutynin) Works

This medication works by blocking a chemical reaction that constricts the bladder. This relaxes bladder smooth muscle, decreasing urgency and frequency of incontinency and voluntary urination.

How To Take Ditropan (Oxybutynin)

This medication is taken by mouth. This medication can be taken with or without food. You should take this medication regularly at the same time every day. The timed release formulation is taken once a day, and should not be split, chewed or crushed.

Possible Ditropan Side Effects (Oxybutynin)

This medication's common side effects include dry mouth, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, drowsiness, indigestion, dizzyness and headache. If you experience any other side effects, contact your healthcare professional.

Ditropan (Oxybutynin) Warnings and Precautions

Be careful taking this medication or other anticholinergic drugs during high temperatures because of the possibility of heat prostration due to decreased sweating.

This medication can cause dizziness or drowsiness. Use caution when driving or engaging in other activities requiring alertness. Alcohol consumption will potentiate these effects.
