Plavix (Clopidogrel) Uses

This medication is used to reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke in patients with atherosclerosis. Your doctor may use Plavix for other conditions as well.

How Plavix (Clopidogrel) Works

This medication inhibits the clumping of platelets (small cells in the blood) by blocking a chemical called ADP (Adenosine DiPhosphate).

How To Take Plavix (Clopidogrel)

Take this medicine by mouth as directed by your doctor. This medication can be taken without regard to food, on an empty or full stomach. You should continue taking this drug on a daily frequency as directed by your doctor. Discontinue when directed by your doctor.

Plavix (Clopidogrel) Possible Side Effects

Possible side effects with this drug include diarrhea or indigestion. Tell your doctor if you experience any of the following: excessive bleeding, nosebleeds, unusual bruising, discoloration of the urine or stool, or yellowing of the skin.

Plavix (Clopidogrel) Warnings and Precautions

Do NOT take this medication with aspirin unless you have been told to do so by your doctor. Tell your doctor or dentist that you are taking this medicine before you have any medical or dental treatment, including surgery. Plavix (Clopidogrel) may cause you to bleed more easily. Avoid any activities that may result in injury.

Plavix (Clopidogrel) Drug Interactions

Consult to your doctor or pharmacist before taking any new prescription or over-the-counter medications, especially Asprin or Aspirin-containing products.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take double doses.

Storage

Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children. Store at room temperature, away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw out medication that is outdated or no longer needed.

Plavix (Clopidogrel) Pregnancy/Nursing Precautions

It is not known whether this drug is excreted into breast milk. It is advised not to breast feed your baby while taking this medicine.
